2 ways to style a console with Sunday Lane

SL Buffet Styling Lead

by Sunday Lane

Blame it on a never-ending Pinterest obsession, but we are finding ourselves very much inspired when it comes to Interiors at the moment. We're loving texture, ceramics and raw timbers, in warm neutral tones accented with fresh, interesting foliage.

One of our favourite areas of the home to style is a buffet or console unit. This structural piece provides the perfect blank canvas to create a display that reflects your personal style. Today we share with you two interpretations of this piece - one for the bedroom and one for a living or dining space, with different approaches to styling.

LOOK 1: For the Bedroom

This is the place to let your personality shine through - style with your treasured fragrances, trinkets and jewels. We love to keep arrangements here loose and feminine, playing with different proportions and textures like glass and ceramics.

Add height and balance the scale of small treasures with bowls, trivets and stacks of magazines or books.

Create height with a tall vase, pillar candles and a framed print in the background to anchor the arrangement.

Sunday Lane items featured:

Morning Sun Narrative Print (A3 framed), Four Seas Card in A4 Frame, Black Blaze White and Honey Pillar Candles, Mihan Aromatics Parfum, St Rose Parfum, Dreamer Notebook and Jane Magazine.

LOOK 2: For the Living Room

In larger spaces we love to style a buffet or console with larger items and a more structured arrangement. Formal placements look elegant, and best showcase interesting and bold forms such as in the ceramics we have featured here.

For this look we prefer to avoid angled placements. Create smaller groupings along the sideboard, for example here we have grouped the candles and ceramics on the left and the stack of books on the right. Allow space between these groupings to create an uncluttered display.

We also love to style this area by hanging prints above the unit in a gallery wall or formal grid arrangement - either a group of 3 A3's side by side or a grid of A4's in a 2 high x 4 wide format.
